About me
I’m Jernej Markovc, a former professional athlete with a rich and diverse background in sports. My journey began with rowing at the age of 10, and I competed professionally until I was 23. Over the years, I achieved some incredible milestones: becoming a European Junior Champion, a World Runner-Up, and earning a bronze medal at the European Championships. I also won the NCAA National Championship in the U.S. twice during my rowing career.
During my time in the U.S., I discovered a deep passion for running. I had the privilege of training alongside professional runners, including marathoners with sub-2:15 times. From 2018 to 2022, I focused on cycling as my primary sport, which gave me an even broader perspective on endurance sports and performance.
Today, I channel all of that experience into my coaching and running, which lead me to a 2:29:41 marathon. Whether it’s road, trail, or endurance events, I bring everything I’ve learned to help others achieve their goals.
What makes me different as a coach and runner?
- I view running through the lens of three sports: rowing, cycling, and running.
- I know professional sports inside and out, from both personal experience and my time spent with elite athletes.
- I truly believe there isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. The real answers lie within you.
- I’m here to help you write your own running and fitness story and, in doing so, contribute to a more balanced and fulfilling life.

Why I’m different
YEARS IN PROFESSIONAL SPORT
My whole life, I grew up immersed in professional sports and surrounded by athletes. I understand the body both inside and out and have personally experienced what it means when a coach disregards you and pushes you to burnout. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Running may not be as technologically demanding as cycling, but throughout my athletic career, I have gained a solid understanding of the science of nutrition, the timing of training plans, and recovery. These elements are what lead to the biggest leaps in progress in running.
CAN'T DO IT WITHOUT COFFEE
OK, I admit that in this, I might not be so different, but ever since I started running, coffee—or coffee breaks—has become my ritual.
That’s why I’d be happy to meet up with you for a chat (especially over coffee) and ensure that I’m not just here to offer advice online.
